June 18 – St. Gregory Barbarigo: Reformer with Vision

On June 18, the Church honors St. Gregory Barbarigo , cardinal, diplomat, and great reformer of the Church in the 17th century. Born in Venice in 1625, he was appointed bishop by Pope Alexander VII and worked in Bergamo and Padua. There he was committed to the renewal of the clergy, founded seminaries, and worked intensively for education, care for the poor, and healthcare. During his time as cardinal, Barbarigo was a pioneer of ecclesiastical reforms inspired by the Council of Trent. He is often called the "Italian Borromeo" for his social commitment and spiritual seriousness.

He is considered the patron saint of dioceses, priestly training and Catholic renewal.
